Dog Boarding Vaccination Requirements: What to Confirm Before a Stay

Understand the difference between state law, veterinary guidance and a boarding facility's own admission policy before check-in.

The Short Answer

Ask for the Exact Dog Boarding Vaccination Policy Early

Boarding vaccination requirements are not identical everywhere. Texas law requires dogs to be vaccinated against rabies by four months of age by a licensed veterinarian. A boarding facility may have additional requirements based on its setting, and your veterinarian may recommend vaccines based on your dog's age, health, lifestyle and exposure risk.

The Paw Club's final admission requirements have not been published yet. We will not guess at vaccine names, timing windows or exceptions. Families should use the confirmed Paw Club policy once it is released and speak with their veterinarian about individual medical decisions.

Three Different Questions

Law, Veterinary Guidance and Boarding Rules Are Not the Same Thing

Texas requirement

Texas requires rabies vaccination for dogs by four months of age, administered by a licensed veterinarian. Local rules can also apply.

Veterinary plan

AAHA separates vaccines into core and noncore categories, with some recommendations shaped by lifestyle, geography and exposure risk.

Facility admission

A boarding provider publishes the records, vaccines, timing and health conditions it requires before a dog may arrive.

Prepare the Record, Not Just the Name

What to Check on Your Dog's Vaccination Records

A vaccine name alone may not be enough for check-in. Ask which document the facility accepts and whether it needs the administration date, due date, veterinarian information and a signed rabies certificate.

Check well before travel. If a record is missing, overdue or unclear, your veterinarian and the boarding facility need time to answer the right questions. Do not use a general website guide to decide a medical schedule for your dog.

  • Dog's identifying information
  • Vaccine name
  • Administration date
  • Current due date
  • Veterinary clinic details
  • Required signature or certificate

Vaccination Questions to Ask Before Dog Boarding

Get clear answers directly from the facility, then take medical questions to your veterinarian.

Ask the facility

  • Which vaccinations and records are required?
  • How current must each record be?
  • Is there a waiting period after vaccination?
  • What document format is accepted?

Ask your veterinarian

  • Is my dog's vaccine plan current?
  • Does age or health change the plan?
  • Which lifestyle risks should we discuss?
  • Can the clinic provide the required record?

Check before arrival

  • The record names the correct dog
  • Dates and due dates are readable
  • Required signatures are present
  • The facility has approved any exception

Frequently Asked Questions About Dog Boarding Vaccinations

Requirements vary by facility. Ask for the exact published admission policy, including required records and timing, and discuss your dog's medical plan with a veterinarian.

Yes. Texas requires dogs to be vaccinated against rabies by four months of age by a licensed veterinarian, with regular boosters as prescribed by rule.

No. Facility policies can differ based on the care setting and admission standards. Veterinary recommendations can also vary with an individual dog's risk.

Check as early as you can. That leaves time to request missing records, ask about timing rules and speak with your veterinarian if anything is overdue or unclear.

Only the facility can explain its exception process, if one exists. Ask before booking and provide any documentation it requires.

The Paw Club's final health and vaccination requirements are still being completed and will be published before reservations open.
